United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Visit to ARTE in Brooklyn
Last week, ARTE hosted an interactive arts workshop for members of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC)'s 2016 Fellowship program. As part of their visit to the United States, young professionals and civil society leaders from across the Middle East and North Africa came to visit ARTE to learn about our programming, talk about our shared experiences in youth development work, and participate in an engaging arts activity focusing on four major human rights articles from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), including:
Slavery, Article 4: No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.
Torture, Article 5: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment or punishment.
Refugees, Article 14: Everyone has the right to go to another country and ask for protection if they are being persecuted or are in danger of being persecuted.
Education, Article 26: Everyone has the right to education.
We are grateful for the lively discussion, intercultural understanding, and engagement around core human rights principles utilizing the arts that took place between the UNAOC and ARTE.
