The Need
Since the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948, no document has more clearly outlined the inherent rights and freedoms guaranteed to every human being. Despite the importance of this influential document, many young people may feel disconnected or not see the relevance of the UDHR and human rights in general in their lives. ARTE is committed to providing quality human rights education, provided in both a local and global context, to youth populations, and by extension, the communities they identify most with.
Lastly, at a time where the equity gap between low-poverty and affluent schools in providing their students with quality arts education is at its highest, meaning that high-poverty students to not have the same access to arts enrichment as economically advantaged students do, the work of ARTE is even more critical. ARTE believes that all young people, regardless of their socio-economic background, are entitled to the most quality arts education possible.
