Kelly Bruett

Kelly Bruett is a recent graduate of Boston College, where she majored in mathematics and environmental studies.  After doing volunteer work in Mexico, volunteering tutoring young children in an after school program, and teaching art classes to third graders, Kelly realized she would like to work with a nonprofit involving social justice issues in the Boston area and worldwide.  Her passion for arts and human rights led her to stumble upon ARTE in order to be involved in a program different from what she studied in school.  Her goals in working with ARTE included learning how a non-profit is started, learning about grant writing and fundraising, learning more about human rights and how to educate young people on them, and learning how to start an organization.  In the future, Kelly hopes to work abroad with children of different cultures, possibly teaching.  She left ARTE with a much better knowledge of how to start a non-profit, how to educate children of different ages, how to teach human rights, how to network with people from all different organizations, and how to fundraise.

Kelly’s favorite art piece is Shephard Fairey’s Make Art, Not War. Of it she says, “In general, I think Shephard Fairey is just an inspiration who speaks his mind and heart regardless of the public opinions.  I love that his work is creative and portrays messages he truly stands for.  This particular piece is more of a propaganda-like work which I like for its simple yet strong message advocating for peace through art.”
